From the website of the Dog Whisperer:

Greetings,

One of my favorite quotes is from the calm-assertive leader Gandhi: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

These words are particularly meaningful as we celebrate Be Kind to Animals Month. Every year, the United States celebrates and promotes compassion towards animals big and small. To me, that says a lot about the greatness of this nation!

Your pets - canine and otherwise - benefit from and appreciate the love that you express on a daily basis, but there are thousands of animals at shelters and rescues in need of your kindness. This May, spend some time at a shelter or rescue group. Take a dog for a walk. Volunteer at an adoption event. But when you go, do what's best for these dogs: leave your feelings of pity and sadness at home. Instead, share the positive, calm-assertive energy of a pack leader. Give these animals a day to remember!

Stay calm and assertive,

Cesar Millan

Toby and the First-Told Tale

Genie and her DAD Dog partner Toby were teaching classes one week at an Intermediate School not too far away.  Genie was teaching the students about how to ask for help when they had a problem.  They also talked about who were safe people to talk to with these problems.

One of the students raised her hand.  Genie called on her to talk.  The girl told about people in her family doing drugs.  Looking at Toby, she gained more confidence to tell the problems she was having at home.

Seeing his classmate being so brave, another student raised his hand and told how a family member living at his house was using dangerous drugs.  He told how his mother was making this person leave and how that made him feel better.

Soon after he finished speaking, another girl raised her hand to tell about more subtance abuse in her family.

Genie talked to them about their fears and their problems.  She talked to them about how to stay safe and how the problems were not their fault.  Their teacher encouraged the students to keep talking about their problems. Their classmates listened with care, and none of them laughed at what they heard.  They wanted their classmates to feel better.

Soon after, the bell rang for the class to go to luch.  All the students lined up to go to the cafeteria.  The girl who was brave enough to speak first, came up to Genie and Toby and gave them a big hug.  She whispered to Genie, "I've never told anyone that before."

Genie told her she was very proud of her, and Toby gave her a kiss.  They were both so happy to help the students.

Did you know?

Inhalants can cause sudden death. “Sudden sniffing death” can happen when a person uses inhalants, even in a single session.
